Greenwood Spoon Carving // April 18th, 2020// 12 PM - 4 PM
Enjoy a day of greenwood spoon carving at the beautiful Hawk and Hawthorne in Barnardsville, NC. Learn the process of transforming a fresh, greenwood log, to a beautiful spoon. Done in the traditional way, there will be a focus on hand tools, techniques, their usage, and maintenance. Kids 10+ with a parent or guardian are welcome.
A gluten free, dairy free wild food lunch will be available with seasonal ingredients to bring you closer to this special bioregion foraged and prepared by Becky Beyer.
Please bring sharp knives and hatchets, but tools will be provided and available for purchase in limited quantity. If you'd like to bring your own, we recommend the 106 and 124 straight Mora knife, or 162 and 163 hook knives.
Corby is a primitive and traditional skills enthusiast and has been exploring the greenwood ways for the past few years. Forager, crafts person, and martial artist, he aspires to live a bioregional lifeway.
Rebecca Beyer is a farmer, forager, herbalist, woodcarver, and witch from Asheville, NC. She has been learning and teaching in the Primitive Skills community for the last 8 years. She teaches foraging professionally as well as at the University level.
